Where do you feel the sensation?

This activity allows students to process their emotions and the sensations they feel by releasing them from the body, onto a safe container.

You can ask your students to do any of the following:

  1. Draw where the sensation is on the body
  2. Pick the sensation word they feel and place it on the body
  3. Give the sensation a shape
  4. Give the sensation a size
  5. Give the sensation a color

Some sensation words you might include in your word bank are:

  • Edgy
  • Tired
  • Tense
  • Open
  • Stuck
  • Numb
  • Fuzzy
  • Stiff
  • Floating
  • Butterflyish
  • Gooey
  • Warm
  • Cool
  • Queasy

Research has found that sharing painful experiences for as little as 2 minutes has been helpful for kids that have been through significant adversity. Whether it be through this activity, writing, talking, using art, among others, giving kids the opportunity to express themselves creates a healthy bio-social environment, and thus…regulation.
